Week 4 Power Rankings 2015

1. Patriots                   +0
The Patriots are 3-0 and blew out the Jaguars 51-17. Brady is playing the best football, maybe of his career, and Gronk continues his reign of dominance. No doubt, the Patriots are the best team in the NFL.

2. Packers                  +0
The Packers blew out a very good Chiefs team. Aaron Rodgers is the best in the business and has 10 TD passes thus far. The offense has weapons and the defense has some play makers. As usual the Packers are a force.

3. Cardinals                +0
While they haven't played a team of note through Week 3, they have dominated every game and, like Brady, Carson Palmer is playing the best football of his career. The defense is good and Larry Fitzgerald and Chris Johnson look like Pro Bowlers again. In Arians we trust.

4. Bengals                  +0
The Bengals first 3 wins have been against the surging Raiders, the Chargers and the Ravens. A.J. Green is a monster, Andy Dalton looks great, and Marvin Lewis is keeping the defense competitive as usual. The Bengals are better than usual and 3-0 in a division with the 0-3 Ravens, the now quarterback-less Steelers, and the non-competitive Browns. The division looks to be theirs.

5. Falcons                   +0
Dan Quinn is looking pretty good right now. Matt Ryan to Julio Jones has never been so potent, Devonta Freeman just came off the game of his life, and the Vic Beasley led pass rush doesn't look too bad. Not to mention, the once abysmal offensive line has only allowed 4 sacks.

6. Broncos                  +0
Despite Peyton Manning's obvious regression the Broncos keep winning games. Every week the team manages to defy all odds and just win. I need to stop counting them out because they keep proving me wrong.

7. Bills                         +1
Yes, the defense is dominant. Yes, Shady and Karlos Williams looks good. Yes, Rex Ryan has revitalized this team. But, that's not what I want to talk about. The Bills now have a quarterback. Tyrod Taylor is playing like Russell Wilson and looks like a "human highlight reel". In this league you can't do a lot without a quarterback and the extremely talented Bills roster now has their guy. I really like this team.

8. Seahawks               +1
I said everyone needed to "R-E-L-A-X" and now that Kam Chancellor is back the Seahawks look like their old self. They were back to their defensive ways in their 26-0 shutout of the Bears and I expect them to continue their dominance.

9. Vikings                    +3
The Chargers were stricken by injury and were not able to play a complete game. Nevertheless dominance is dominance and the Vikings were dominant. Not to mention, A.P. is back and with his running talent, Teddy Bridgewater's job just got a lot easier.

10. Chiefs                    -3
The Chiefs two losses are to the undefeated Broncos and Packers, who are both top 6 in my power rankings. Jamaal Charles is a beast, Alex Smith can win games, and the defense has a boat load of talent. Not to mention, a wide receiver finally caught a TD.This team should be A-OK.

11. Panthers               +3
The Panthers haven't beaten a good team yet so I am still in doubt. But, 3-0 is still undefeated. Similar to the Broncos I'm not going to count this team out. Not to mention, Cam Newton is playing pretty great right now.

12. Cowboys               -2
Romo is still out and Dez is still out. But, the Cowboys aren't out. The Cowboys made it close against a very good Falcons team. They played a lot better than I thought they would and I think Brandon Weeden deserves more credit. Jason Garrett is an underrated coach who finally has his roster. The offensive line is phenomenal and when Romo and Dez come back I think the Cowboys will still be in the playoff hunt.

13. Colts                      -2
A close win over the Titans is worrying, but as long as the Colts have Andrew Luck they should be fine. In the easiest division in the NFL the Colts are on a pretty long leash as far as I'm concerned.

14. Steelers                 -1
Yes, they are without Ben Roethlisberger for a few weeks, but this team still has Antonio Brown and a pissed off Le'Veon Bell to lead the offense. Not to mention, Michael Vick isn't a bad option. They have a tough schedule over the next few weeks, but it is way too early to count out the still offensive powerhouse known as the Steelers. Like the Cowboys, they can stay in the hunt and have to wait far less time.

15. Jets                       +0
Like I said before, the Jets defense can't always play shutout football and when they don't Ryan Fitzpatrick can't win games by himself. That was on display last Sunday. Nevertheless, the Jets still have a good defense and that will win them games this season.

16. Ravens                 +1
I still have hope. Yes, they are 0-3 and that is never a good sign, but they were very competitive against a great Bengals team and I think they will definitely pick up a win and gain momentum against the Roethlisbergerless Steelers on Thursday night.

17. Chargers               -1
The Chargers are a lot better than their play against the Vikings last week. They were diminished by injuries and the Vikings played top notch football. Nevertheless, they were dominated and that is never a good sign, regardless of the circumstances. I am not worried about them just yet because this is a team filled with talent, but if a loss to the Browns came next week I definitely would be.

18. Lions                     +0
While 0-3, the Lions still have a talented roster and even though I am almost positive they will not make the playoffs, they are better than a lot of teams in the NFL. They can still win games.

19. Rams                    +0
The Rams couldn't score more than 12 points to beat a Steelers team in complete chaos without their star quarterback. That's enough of a reason to prove they aren't good enough to do anything in a division with the Seahawks and Cardinals.

20. Giants                    +1
The 1-2 Giants look the same as always. Their win over the Redskins didn't change my mind about them, it confirmed it. If they had lost to the Redskins I would be worried, but they were able to beat a bad Redskins team and didn't blow the lead. So, I still think the same of them. They haven't proven to me they can beat good teams yet.

21. Raiders                 +5
While I am not on the 2-1 Raiders bandwagon just yet, I am impressed. I think the Raiders found their quarterback in Derek Carr and love Amari Cooper's immense potential. In addition, Jack Del Rio is changing the attitude of this team and I think they could be interesting not this year but next. They need to win a lot more games in order for me to believe in them now.

22. Titans                    +3
The Titans have really surprised me this season and it all starts with Marcus Mariota. The NFL is a quarterback driven league and I believe the Titans have found their guy. During the draft process I was down on Mariota. I believed he didn't have franchise quarterback potential. Wow, was I wrong. I think Mariota is on the right track and as long as he continues on this path the Titans will be just fine. They will win some games this year, but look out for them next year.

23. Eagles                   +1
Ya they won. So What? My opinions aren't changing.Chip Kelly has lost all credibility with me and the Eagles need to win many many more games for me to become a believer.

24. Jaguars                  -1
I actually like this Jaguars team a lot. They have a lot of potential and might kick it up a notch in a week or two. But, wins are wins and they were destroyed by the Patriots. So, until those wins come they will stay pretty low on the power rankings.

25. Dolphins                 -5
After yet another loss, the Dolphins season is beginning to look pretty bleak and the seat of Joe Philbin is getting pretty toasty. He's just not a good leader, simple as that. It showed during the RIchie Incognito "Bully Scandal" and it is the reason why the Dolphins continue to struggle. Until he goes, there will be a lot of wasted talent in Miami.

26. 49ers                      -4
While I don't love Jim Tomsula, I don't hate this 49ers team. I am one of the few left who thinks Colin Kaepernick, with some serious coaching help, can be a franchise quarterback. I also think this team needs to rebuild and restock. There are some nice pieces in San Francisco but I don't know if Tomsula can put them together.

27. Texans                  +5
I ranked the Texans way too low last week. With a win against the Buccaneers they proved they are not the bottom of the barrel. With the return of Arian Foster very soon this team looks to be mediocre, but not terrible.

28. Buccaneers            -1
Jameis Winston doesn't look too bad. While the Buccaneers won't do anything this year, the Tampa faithful might have a bright future a year or two down the road. But, not this year.

29. Saints                    +2
The Saints lost a game without Drew Brees. Big whup! This is not a good team. But, I was a little too low on them last week so I bumped them up two spots. Big whup!

30. Browns                   -1
The Browns lost a very winnable game to the Raiders at home due to an interception on the final drive of the game. What a surprise! Josh McCown is not the quarterback to lead the Browns and he proved it on that drive and many others. Am I saying Johnny Football would have completed that drive and forced overtime? We'll never know. Would he have had a far better chance than McCown? Absolutely. This isn't some new revelation, check out my article from last week, "Why The Browns Should Start Johnny Manziel". It's not just me, the Browns players have had a change of heart also. Make the change Cleveland and give your team a chance.

31. Bears                      -1
The Bears season is over and they know it. The have already traded Jon Bostic and Jared Allen and we're not even a quarter of the way through the season. At this point, I don't know whats next for the Bears. Matt Forte could be next for all I know. The only thing I do know is that John Fox is in rebuilding mode and this will be yet another long season for the Bears.

32. Redskins                 -4
Going into the season this was my pick for the worst team in the NFL, but after a win against the Rams at home I was tricked into believing they still have a chance. After watching them get dominated by the so-so Giants I was brought back down to earth. This team is no good and it starts with their head coach. In what world do you start rookie Matt Jones over "Mr. Consistency" Alfred Morris? He is one of the few good players on that team. Starting Alfred Morris obviously wouldn't have won them the game, but leaving him out makes it even bigger mess.

Why The Browns Should Start Johnny Manziel

I haven't always been the biggest fan of Johnny Manziel and that was never more apparent when I wrote "Why I am off the Johnny Manziel Bandwagon" which was my take on Manziel and why he wouldn't be successful in the NFL just before the 2014 draft. To summarize the article, I felt that his skills wouldn't translate to the NFL but, thought he had the potential to be a successful quarterback if he was willing to really work at it.

Over a year later he has become a better quarterback but, I still feel pretty much the same. Though I do recognize the work he has put in, especially after his two and a half month rehab stint, is a definite step in the right direction. Because of his hard work, I was happy to see him get his chance to play, during the past two games.

Even though he threw for a pedestrian 53.8 passing percentage, averaged 177 yards a game and fumbled 4 times during the two games, he is at least starting to show the potential of being a solid quarterback. After his 28-14 win over Marcus Mariota, and the "red hot" Titans, the public started to believe he had the ability to be a franchise quarterback. That is until 3 days later, when Josh McCown was named starter over Manziel, after being medically cleared from his week 1 concussion against the Jets.

While I respect head coach Mike Pettine's decision, who obviously knows far more about his team than I do, I feel he made a mistake to not give Johnny Manziel a real chance to start. The Browns should give their former 1st round pick draft a real shot to be the Browns quarterback so they truly know if he is bust. If they don't, the Browns will have prematurely given up on the 4th 1st round Cleveland quarterback since 1999. Manziel is young and still has a chance to be a decent quarterback, where as 13 year veteran Josh McCown has set his role set as an NFL Journeyman. So why not give the job to the player who is young enough to get better?

Not only does he deserve a real chance, Manziel is the better quarterback who was playing with momentum. Through his first two years Manziel has a 1-3 record when playing for the majority of the game. Josh McCown on the other hand had a 1-10 record quarterbacking the Buccaneers last year. Not to mention, he is a veteran quarterback who has reached his ceiling.

Comparatively not only is Johnny Manziel the better quarterback but, he is still young enough to get better. He deserves a chance to prove himself and unlike the last few Browns quarterback's, he actually capable of being good. While I don't think Johnny will ever be a franchise quarterback, he was definitely heading in the right path to be a solid one. I would understand benching him if there was a better more solid option but, that is not Josh McCown. I think benching Manziel is not only bad for him but, also bad for the Browns who actually have an opportunity to be solid at the quarterback position for the first time in many years.

My take on the 2-0 and 0-2 teams of the 2015 Season

2-0 Teams

Patriots
Tom Brady is just too good and in the quarterback driven league that is all you need, well that and a Gronk. Rob Gronkowski is simply inhuman. Seriously, his 207 yards and 4 touchdowns is a decent season for a tight end. He has those stats through 2 games. His gaudy stats are a large reason why Tom Brady has thrown for a 69.2 completion percentage, 754 passing yards, and 0 interceptions. On the flip side of the ball, the Pats have crafted a solid defense, headlined by talented players like Dont'a Hightower, Jamie Collins, Devin McCourty, and Chandler Jones, who are able to get the job done. With a solid defense, the best QB this season thus far and a pedestrian schedule, the future looks bright for the Patriots.

Packers
Tom Brady may be the seasons best quarterback but, Aaron Rodgers is still the best overall quarterback. He just makes it look so easy, the way he maneuvers in the pocket and throws the most beautiful pass right into the receivers hands every time. He single-handedly wins games but, play makers like Randall Cobb, Clay Matthews, Eddie Lacy, and Julius Peppers certainly help. No one ever doubts the Packers and they really shouldn't. Of course this team will win a lot of games this year.

Cardinals
Two words, Bruce Arians. Arians has changed the culture of Arizona and they just look like a different team than the Ken Whisenhunt ones of the past. Arians biggest asset though is his ability to make the quarterback better. He turned Carson Palmer, who didn't even want to play football a few years back, into an absolute stud with 7 TDs and 1 interception through week two. The 2-0 start doesn't surprise me and as long as the master work of Arians continues I could definitely see the Cardinals taking the division this year.

Bengals
The Bengals once again have talent seeping from their roster and look to continue their brand of consistency during the NFL regular season. Since Andy Dalton and A.J. Green were drafted, the Bengals have had at least a 9-7 record every year. I would be shocked if they did anything less. The only difficulty this team will face this year is competing in the tough AFC North with Pittsburgh and Baltimore. But, this challenge is nothing new so it looks like playoffs for the Bengals yet again.

Falcons
I really like the Falcons this year and starting off 2-0 only confirms my feelings. I love the Matt Ryan and Julio Jones connection that allows the Falcons to have a great areal attack and I think Dan Quinn is beginning to turn around a now very interesting Falcons defense. I think the Falcons are the surprise team in the NFL and take a very winnable division.

Broncos
This team rides on the shoulders of Peyton Manning and with his deteriorating play, I think the Broncos are in trouble. But, the last two Bronco wins have been absolutely phenomenal play by a really strong defense. The Broncos just keep winning and while I think Peyton's declining play will eventually lose them games, they keep winning so I can't count them out.

Cowboys
With Romo and Dez out, Dallas fans look to be in panic mode right about now. I think they will be just fine. They have a phenomenal offensive line, a solid running game, and a defense that has looked pretty good the last 2 games. Brandon Weeden will be better than expected and keep Dallas in the playoff hunt by the time Romo returns. I'm not saying they will make the playoffs but, I like their odds more than any other NFC East team.

Panthers
The Panthers are the same team last year minus Kelvin Benjamin and that's not good enough. I think they win 7 games, like last year, and have the same season they always do. They beat the Jaguars in week 1 and the Texans in week 2. There isn't anything special about their 2-0 start, which they also has last year. The Panthers are the same team as always.

Jets
The Jets defense has impressed me. Whether it's holding teams to an average of 8.5 points per game, a +8 turnover differential, or domination of a very good Colts offense the Jets defense has shown they are not to be messed with. But, can Ryan Fitzpatrick lead this team to the playoffs? I don't think so. He just doesn't have the capabilities to give the Jets wins when the defense doesn't play the shutout football they have through the first two games. Is this a talented team? Yes. Will their defense be good? Yes. But, is the offense good enough to cover for Fitzpatrick? I don't believe so. I think this is a good team and one that will have a much improved record but, is not be good enough to make the playoffs.

0-2 Teams

Seahawks
Anyone who thinks that the Seahawks season is over because they are 0-2 needs to "R-E-L-A-X". Their first loss was to the Rams, who the Seahawks have a record 2-4 in the Edward Jones Dome during the Pete Carroll regime and the second loss came to the Packers who are unmistakably one of the best teams in the NFL. Both losses also came without All-Pro Saftey Kam Chancellor who just ended his hold out earlier in the week. Most importantly their first games of the season were both on the road. The Seahawks are known for their great home field advantage, not winning on the road. The Seahawks may not win the division but, it would be an absolute shocker if they don't make the playoffs.

Colts
Would you be surprised to find out that the Colts started last season 0-2? Yes, the Colts have been in this position before and subsequent to last seasons 0-2 start, the former AFC championship participants continued the season with a 5 game win streak. Even if this team is not as good as last years Colts, who didn't have Andre Johnson, Frank Gore, Todd Herremans, and Philip Dorsett, they are in the leagues weakest division by far. Neither the Titans, Jaguars, or Texans are playoff teams. That leaves the Colts, who not only play the Titans, Jaguars, and Texans for 6 out of their 14 remaining games but, are yet to play a full game with a 100% T.Y. Hilton.

Ravens
The Ravens are always a team to fear. They have the most underrated coach in the NFL in John Harbaugh, Joe Flacco, a quarterback who always seems to come up big in the important games, a solid offensive line, and a very good defense. Yes, they are without team leader Terrell Suggs and they do have an incredibly harsh schedule for the remainder of the season but, this team will find a way. At the bare minimum they will have and 8-8 season and I would not be surprised if they make the playoffs. Never count this team out.

Lions
The Lions are a talented team. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and rising star Ameer Abdullah head the offense and the defense will be good when star Deandre Levy returns. But, the Lions are behind in a division with the Packers and, my personal dark horse team, the Vikings. They just aren't good enough to make the playoffs this year. I think they have an 8 to 9 win season.

Giants
This looks like the same old disappointing New York Giants football team that we have come to expect. As shown by the past two games, the Giants just can't finish games. This seems like the same team as last year and the year before. While they will win some games think they finish with 7 wins, which is 1 more than last year.

Eagles
I am done with Chip Kelly and the Eagles. I predicted the Eagles to start hot and go 2-0 to start the season, then peter out and miss the playoffs with a 9-7 record. But, after these last two games I have realized the Chip Kelly gimmick is over. First off, Sam Bradford is not a good starting NFL quarterback. I have never been high on him, as shown by leaving him of my Top 10 Quarterbacks under 25 in the NFL list back in 2013. Next, you don't become a better team by getting rid your talent. In last year alone the eagles allowed Trent Cole, LeSean McCoy, Jermey Maclin, Evan Mathis, and Nick Foles to leave and that's just the pro bowlers. Lastly the scheme isn't even that good. If it is then how come Sam Bradford has 89 passing attempts and eagles running backs have 31 attempts? Sam Bradford has 33 more passing attempts this season than Aaron Rodgers and Demarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles have less combined rushing attempts than T.J. Yeldon. That is insane for a team whose only offensive talent is good running backs. This team is a mess and it starts with the head coach who has driven this team into the ground. I think, at best, the Eagles win 6 games.

Saints
The Saints, like Drew Brees, are far past their prime. They are without last years best player, Jimmy Graham, and have a mess of a defense that allowed Jameis Winston get a win and a 114.6 passer rating. The Saint offensive line is also in trouble allowing Drew Brees to be sacked 6 times through the first two games of the season. I don't see this team doing a lot, maybe 5 wins. That should be enough to get this team a high draft pick and dare I say a new QB.

Texans
J.J. Watt can't single-handdedly lead the Texans to the playoffs, they need a supporting cast and they don't have that. Besides J.J. Watt, Deandre Hopkins, and the aging Vince Wilfork the Texans have a pretty marginal team. On top of that the quarterback play is abysmal. While the return of star running back Arian Foster, in a week or two, will help this team the Texans always look outmatched. They don't ever feel dominant and you can't be a good football team if you don't dominate. Personally, I think a bad season might be the best thing for Houston because a high draft pick may get them the QB they need to make them relevant.

Bears
The Bears are in for a long season and despite the immense offensive talent don't have the quarterback, whether Jay Cutler or Jimmy Clausen, to get wins. They also have the worst defense in points allowed at 39.5 and have managed to do all of this in only home losses. With 8 away games remaining and being in a division with the Lions, Vikings, and Packers I don't feel good about the Bears this year. But, John Fox is a good coach and in a few years the Bears may be competitive again.
