Super Bowl Preview

Tomorrow is the day we have all been waiting for Super Bowl XLIX. I am really excited for the game tomorrow because I do feel like the match up is good. While I don’t believe the game will be as close as everyone says I think that the game will be good I feel like the overall feel of the game will be similar to Super Bowl XLIV which the Saints beat the Colts 31-17. That game was incredibly close until the Saints pulled ahead in the 4th quarter. That being said I am confident the Seahawks will win tomorrow and mainly because of my very first article on NFLology Why Bill Belichick Will Never Win Another Ring. Because in my original article written in the summer of 2013 I said “The Patriots are a team that will always win many games. They will enter the playoffs as a high seed and maybe even make the Super Bowl. But they will never win again because they don’t have that fire that will enable them to raise that Lombardi trophy once again". For that reason I firmly stick to my guns on this and will pick the Seahawks.

That being said the Patriots can win this game and here is how.

I have said it the entire playoffs and will say it again you stop Gronk you beat the Patriots. If Rob Gronkowski has a great game the patriots may have a chance to win. I also want to see Legarrette Blount have a really good game, My main point for this game and the entire playoffs is if you can take some pressure off of Tom Brady he plays out of his mind. On the defense the Partiots need to make sure they can at least limit Marshawn Lynch because we all know you can’t stop the BEAST! If the Patriots have a good run game and can limit Lynch, Brady and Gronk can maybe do their magic and have a chance to win.

Now to talk about what I think will happen how the Seahawks will be the first team to win back to back super bowls since the Patriots themselves. Obviously the Legion of Boom needs to play well but mainly Cam Chancellor needs to play the best game of his life because he has to cover the manimal called Gronk.  That is the match up that I want to see because I truly think this match up will decide the game. I also think that Marshawn Lynch needs to destroy it in this game and if he does Russell Wilson can do his thing and wreck havoc on the Patriots secondary.

This is an interesting game because both Richard Sherman and Darrelle Revis don’t need to have big games. Of course it helps but I really think this is a game that is won be the running game and the Gronk. I am excited for tomorrow and have a good feeling tomorrow will be better than last years Super Bowl.

I have been on twitter for a bit now and would love it if you would check it out. I try to post as much as possible and will live tweet during the Superbowl. Please follow me @NFLologist and spread the love!

Senior Bowl Big Performers

I’m really sorry that it took me so long to come out with this but I have been really busy this week and it took me a while to really do my analysis. That being said it is out now and I hope all of my viewers enjoy.

Ali Marpet Hobart
Get used to his name because I have a really good feeling about this guy. Of all of the players on here he is the only offensive lineman because he is the only one that stood out to me. I am not usually judging the lineman as much as the skill players so for him to stand out is a big notion to me. After watching him and hearing Mike Mayock talk a bit about him I did some research and found out he is from Hobart A D3 school in Geneva New York. I not only am I rooting for him but I really think he can be the steal of the draft as an interior lineman.

Ameer Abdullah Nebraska
Of course I need to talk about the MVP. Abdullah played excellent and really showed to me that he should be considered a top Running Back in this class among a class that is absolutely stacked at Running Back this year. What I really enjoyed out of him was that he showed all of the scouts how good of a receiver he is which is very important especially in the pass first NFL offenses of today. he also was able to show his downhill running and ability to make guys miss

Nick Marshall Auburn
It’s crazy to think that less than a month ago Nick Marshall was playing QB for the Auburn Tigers and now he is a Cornerback trying to get drafted. He may have been the biggest shock for me because he held his own in a position that he hasn't played since 2011. I was really impressed by him and think he can be a dark horse pick later in the draft. Oh and he also led the Senior Bowl in solo tackles

Quinten Rollins Miami (Ohio)
Mike Mayock 100% keyed me off to this kid. He was a former Basketball player who has only played football for one year and as Mayock said and his interception showed was he has some great ball skills. This is another player who intrigued me and I really think that he could be the steal of the draft if he cleans up his technique which will come with time. Because there need to be more Cornerbacks with ball handling skills.

Nick Boyle Delaware
The first thing I thought when I saw Nick Boyle practicing for the Senior Bowl was Gronkowski. While I understand he probably won’t be that I have to stick with my gut at some point and while he is already a proven blocker I think he is an underrated pass catcher who can really be a Swiss Army Knife for a team. And who can forget his awesome hurdle in the Game.

Rannell Hall UCF
Talk about hands. This guy made some of the best catches of the Senior Bowl and he really put himself on the map for me. I don’t Know to much about him but I do know that people should watch for him. The NFL needs more good ball handling Cornerbacks

Cameron Artis-Payne Auburn
Talk about quick footed.he just made everyone miss. This is a very different back then a Abdullah but in a league where specialty players with speed thrive there is a place as a tailback for this kid.

David Johnson Northern Iowa
Like I have said a few times this is a year for a team that needs a running back and Johnson is a pure Halfback who can just run it down the throats of people. He was really impressive to me and there is a place for him in the Senior Bowl.

Hau’oli Kikaha Washington
A talented kid who showed off a bit at the Senior bowl he had a good performance and made some good tackles. What impresses me more is that he led the nation in sacks in college this year and that alone warrants a look. I need to look into him as a player but as of right now i am intrigued by him.

Danny Shelton Washington
Me and every other scout in america loves him as a defensive tackle and I agree. While he didn't show in the Senior Bowl as much as I would have liked he had a great week of practice and showed everyone that he is a top pick in this draft. He fills up lanes and dominates the trenches. He definitely fills the need for any team with a defensive tackle problem.

Carl Davis Iowa
While not as good as shelton this kid is a wrecking ball and he gave a beat down in the early part of the Senior Bowl making himself noticed and going wherever the ball was. He had a great week and really made use of his minutes.

Ben Koyack Notre Dame
Another Tight end who really impressed me I like both him and Boyle but he is very much a pure pass catcher who Notre Dame is so known for. While Boyle remind me of Gronk from his style of play I do think that Koyack may be a better pure offensive weapon.

Kevin White TCU
He had a nice game that was really topped off by his interception but unlike Quandre Diggs I really noticed him in coverage and he impressed. I like him and I really liked hearing Charles Davis and Mike Mayock comparing him to former TCU teammate Jason Verrett because he had a decent rookie season despite being hurt for most of it. And when watching him I do see some similarities I also compare him to a Brandon Flowers who also happens to be on the chargers like Verrett.

Quandre Diggs Texas
He was a bit more of a side note to me but he made a really nice interception that definitely warrants a deeper look scouting wise. Also its always nice to have bloodlines with his brother being long time San Diego Charger Quentin Jammer. Aside from the fact all I have talked about this article is Charger Cornerbacks, Diggs could be interesting.

Tyler Varga Yale
When the buff Yale kid scored 2 touchdowns I took notice. Tyler Varga did impress me in the Senior Bowl because he showed the potential to be the next Marcel Reece. While it is more than likely he probably won’t he definitely has the potential. I really like his versatility and I compare him to Marcel because I would define him as a fullback but I personally would throw him all over the field. I really think that Varga can be a piece of the puzzle for the right team.

I have been on twitter for a bit now and would love it if you would check it out. I try to post as much as possible and will live tweet during the Superbowl. Please follow me @NFLologist and spread the love!

Why I am done with Deflate-Gate

On Monday I heard about the whole Deflate-Gate issue and it fired me up, the Colts were my Superbowl pick and I wanted an excuse for them getting blown out. To add on to that I am not a big Bill Belichick fan. I have major respect for how dominant his teams have been the past 15 years, but with past cheating like the Spy gate and the way he treats his players with no dignity by trading and cutting them, completely out of nowhere and with no respect, for some "strategic reason". I understand the NFL is a business and do what you need to do to win, but have some some class. These are real people not disposable cogs in a machine like you are playing a Madden Franchise. But after putting my personal feelings aside I began to realize the insanity this story has become.

My first Inclination that the Deflate-Gate had gone too far was when my Bleacher Report app sent me a notification and told me that Tom Brady saying he had nothing to do with the deflated balls was Breaking News. I love Bleacher Report but that was stooping pretty low. This story has become so big and senseless that Tom Brady saying what everyone expected him to say became BREAKING NEWS!!!

This is not breaking news I understand that the media loves to have a story in the 2 weeks before the Superbowl, but why is CNN having a major segment on this! I am the first guy to say I wish more people payed attention to the NFL and how great of a sport it is but CNN should be talking about world events not a stupid deflation of footballs.

What was truly the final straw for me today was that I found out the deflated balls were only used in the first half. This was when the Patriots were up 17-7. In the second half where the Patriots dominated the Colts shutting them out and scoring 28 unanswered points to slaughter them the normal balls were used. If the Patriots were cheating they did a really bad job of it because the Colts played better when they were cheating then when they weren't.

My point is I understand why this is a big story and people love to hate the Patriots because of their success and cheating in the past. I fault no one for making this as big as it is but I think it is ridiculous. Yes if found out the Patriots should be punished but no more. While I may poke some fun at this story I am completely done talking about it unless there is real Breaking News.

National Championship game and My Take on the Big Performers.

The very first College Football National Championship game of the playoff era was not only a great event but became the most watched cable event of all-time. I did enjoy the game a lot and was happy that my predictions came true and Cardale Jones a 3rd string QB led his Ohio State Buckeyes to a national championship win.

While I wasn't watching extremely close to see every big play I did notice some players who made some good plays and may fit in the NFL.

Of course Ezekiel Elliott was a beast for the entire playoffs and I think he will work out very well in the NFL. From what I have seen off him he reminds me of the next Eddie Lacy and Elliot's national championship performance reminds me of when Lacy dismantled a Notre Dame defense that was headed by Manti Teo who had one of the best senior years of any defensive player in college football. Bottom line I love Elliot and think he will have a successful NFL career.

Another player who stood out to me was Cardale Jones who showed of his NFL talent to me. That being said I completely agree that he should stay at OSU because he is not ready but make no mistake his talent and his 6 ft 5 in and 250 lb frame is NFL material to me. In the National Championship against a very good Oregon team he made some great throws and ran like a running back. His skill set and pocket presence reminds me of a mix of Ben Roethlisberger and Cam Newton which is a pretty big compliment. In a few years the name Cordale Jones will show up again and after he works with guru Urban Meyer we may have the next NFL star.

Marcus Mariota kinda proved my point in this game while he did have flashes of brilliance and did show off why he won the Heisman but he also showed me that he can't win in big games and against good NFL type defenses. His option speed run offense probably won't work in the NFL like most Oregon QB's haven't worked in the NFL. I must admit though that Mariota does remind me of Russell Wilson at times. But make no mistake that is both a negative and positive. Despite his 6 ft 4 in 219 lb he looks very small in the pocket which is fine for a Wilson because Wilson is only 5 ft 11 in. but for someone of Mariota's size its just weird and he needs to play to his size. Watching the game I would have never guessed that his is 1 inch shorter then Cordale Jones. My bottom line on him is his "run around and dance in the pocket" is awesome for Russell Wilson, but for Marcus Mariota it doesn't work. While talented I think he lacks a "clutch factor" and will probably be put in his place in the NFL.

Byron Marshall really stood out to me because he was all over the freaking field and while he made a bonehead move almost taking away a touchdown by almost dropping the ball before he reached the end zone but disipline is teachable. What is not teachable is outrunning everyone to score a 70 yard touchdown. Probably the best thing about this guy is that I found out he is actually a running back who happens to play at Wide Receiver a lot. The dude is also a pretty good runner and I think that his overall athleticism and skill at two positions merits a hard look whenever he enters the draft.

My Conference Championship Picks for the 2015 Playoffs

The Divisional round of the playoffs was a very exciting and successful week for me and
My Divisional Picks for the 2015 Playoffs going  3-1 with my first incorrect prediction of the playoffs  thus far being the Controversial Cowboys at Packers game. While I do believe  that the Dez Bryant play at the end should have been a catch  whether it is technically one or not that is irrelevant. Being 7-1 in the playoffs and riding high I think the Colts will win it all even more in my mind. and the upset win over the Broncos has proven to me even more that they will win it all I take them. Because I picked Dallas to go to the Superbowl I have to pick a new NFC team and I think the Seahawks will beat the Packers.

So my picks are...

Conference Championship
Colts at patriots: Colts win
Packers at Seahawks: Seahawks win

Superbowl
 Colts vs. Seahawks: Colts win

My Take on Every Team Still Left in the Conference Championship Round of the 2015 Playoffs and What They Need to do to Win

Patriots:
While I do have the patriots losing this game it is simple for them to win. Gronk needs to play out of his mind Gronk is the lifeblood of the offense and if he has a big game the patriots offense will be in it. On the defense Darrelle Revis and Chandler Jones are the key players. Revis needs to put T.Y Hilton on a one night beach vacation to Revis Island and shut him down for the game. Chandler Jones on the other hand needs to smack Luck to the ground. He got close to some monster hits on Joe Flacco last week, but this week he needs to finish the job because when you give Luck time in the pocket he makes some special things happen. Bottom line if the patriots can play their besty football today and get Andrew Luck to play at his worst then they have a chance.

Colts:
In order for the Colts to win, like I think they will, Andrew Luck needs to play out of his mind. And in order to do that I think Reggie Wayne needs to have a big game. Because T.Y. Hilton will be on and off against Revis Island, Wayne needs to step up and use his experience to beat the patriots this week. If Reggie succeeds, Luck will succeed. Now in order to win on defense the Colts have to stop Gronk. I don't know how, but as I have said so many times if you stop Gronk you can beat Brady. If the Colts can do that they will book a ticket to Superbowl XLIX.

Seahawks:
Its pretty simple for the hawks to win, Marshawn Lynch has to run the ball well and the Legion of boom needs to play well enough to handicap Aaron Rodgers more then he already is. If Lynch tears up the Packers defense Aaron Rodgers will have tough time fighting back. If they do this they can beat a Packers team whose best player is handicapped with a calf injury.

Packers:
It is going to be hard to beat the best defense in the league in the best home field advantage in the league with your best player not at 100%. To be honest I don't know how the Packers can beat the Seahawks with a wounded Aaron Rodgers but if there is a will their is a way. First off Aaron Rodgers needs to play at his best for the entire game which I know will be a struggle considering his calf but in order to win he needs to do it. Because Aaron Rodgers will not be 100% Edddie Lacy possibly becomes the most important player in the game for the Packers and I see this game as a running back duel more then a QB duel. Eddie needs to match Marshawn Lynch run for run espically becauyse he needs to take a massive workload off of Rodgers. On the Defense I am looking to A.J Hawk and Julius Peppers.to attempt to Stop Beast Mode Mr. Marshawm Lynch because stoping him is the key to everning the playing field.

The 2015 BCS National Championship

While this is not an NFL game I am extremely excited for the College Football National Championship between the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes in a matter of minutes. I don't know too much about these teams but I am interested to see Marcus Mariota play on the big stage because I feel his performance tonight will shine a lot on his NFL career. I will be watching the game closely and report on players who impressed me and I think me be good NFL prospects.

I do not have the knowledge in college football that I do in the NFL but I have a good feeling that Ohio State led by Urban Meyer and 3rd string QB Cardale Jones will pull out a victory tonight.

My Divisional Picks for the 2015 Playoffs

As you can see on My Playoff Predictions for the 2015 Playoffs I went 4 for 4 on my Wildcard Predictions and because of that the predictions I made at the beginning of the playoffs are still valid so I am going to stick with my gut and keep them. Another post that might interest you is My Take on Every Team Still Left in the Divisional Round of the 2015 Playoffs. So as I made them at the beginning of the playoffs here is my predictions for the divisional round.

Divisional round
Ravens at Patriots: Patriots win:
Colts at Broncos: Colts win
Panthers at Seahawks: Seahawks win
Cowboys at Packers: Cowboys win

My Take on Every Team Still Left in the Divisional Round of the 2015 Playoffs

I have Already made my predictions for the week here is my take on the Remaining 8 teams.

Patriots:
This is a good Patriots team, don't get me wrong, but I still am sticking with my gut that they will not win the Superbowl this year. My problem with them this year is that they don't have the weapons on offense. The entire Patriots offense is centered on Rob Gronkowski. Tom Brady is one of the best ever but he needs the Gronk to be successful on offense because he doesn't have the weapons. I don't believe the Ravens will stop Gronk and that is why the Pats will win. Some team will stop him and Julian Edelman isn't enough to pick up the slack..

Broncs: As long as Peyton Manning is on a team in the playoffs I don't give them any chance to win it all. As always Peyton has a very good team on his hands and I really want to commend John Elway for putting together a truly phenomenal roster. But when Peyton is playing in an emotional game against his former team and my Superbowl Picks I have to give it to the Colts. I do think it will be a really good game and a slug fest from these 2 Quarterbacks. Sorry Peyton, you are just not good in the playoffs.

Colts:
I love this Colts team I really do and the win over the Bengals proved it to me. Not only did the offense do great but Chuck Pagano's defensive skills are starting to show with an impressive defense. Considering they are playing a revenge game against the Broncos from week 1 I am very confident they can win. This is a complete team with only an Achilles Heel in the run game. I am ride or die with this Colts team but more then that with Andrew Luck.

Ravens:
This is Joe Flacco's team and for this team to have a chance it's ride or die with him. I am actually a bigger Joe Flacco fan then most and was a big fan during his early playoff runs before the Superbowl win. That being said he seems like a different QB then he was before the Superbowl win and I don't have a good feeling about this game despite being very good against Brady. If they can beat the Patriots then I will start to believe that post Superbowl Joe Flacco can win another.

Seahawks:
Will they beat the Panthers? I am almost positive they will, but I don't think they will do so hot for the rest of the playoffs. This team is riding high emotionally right now so every team is gunning for them which is never good and this is not the Seahawk team from last year. I do think that they will underestimate these teams and one will take advantage.  Do they have a chance? yes they do but I don't love them. I usually think number 1 seeds will win the Superbowl and this is no exception.

Packers:
I just have a funny feeling about this Packers team that makes me think they can't win it all whether it is a not 100% Rodgers or the fact that they are not a great playoff team. They definitely can beat the Cowboys and even if they do the Seahawks would beat them despite it being a revenge game. The only way I think they make make the Superbowl is if they beat the Cowboys and somehow get to play the Panthers in the NFC Championship.

Cowboys:
I am the exact opposite with the Cowboys compared to the Packers I have a really good feeling about this team. They are so talented on offense everywhere to the point where it reminds me of the 90's Cowboys and have a pretty good defense. I honestly believe that this is Tony Romo's year and if the Cowboys beat the Packers then they play in a winnable game in Seattle or by some chance at home against a sub par Panther team. Personally I would love to see a Cowboys vs. Seahawks part 2, but either way I like this team.

Panthers:
I have no faith in this team. They struggled at times against a Cardinals team that had half of their team hurt and are going to play the hottest team in the NFL, that is a recipe for Panthers loss. The only way they can win is if the Hawks underestimate them to the point of not trying and they bring an A game that is pretty good at hide and seek. Do they have a chance for an upset? I guess so but not for a Lombardi

My Take On Every Playoff Team for the 2014-2015 season

Patriots:
As the title of my very first blog article "Why Bill Belichick Will Never Win Another Ring" states I don't think the Patriots will win the Super Bowl. As always this is a very good team, but these Bill Belichick teams always find a way to lose in the playoffs or Super Bowl because they just aren't good enough.

Broncos:
Just like Bill Belichick teams Peyton Manning teams are not very good in the playoffs and with father time finally wearing on Peyton I do not believe at all he will pull it off.

Steelers: The Steelers are a very interesting team and I do believe if they can pull of a Ravens win without the workhorse Le'Veon Bell they have a shot at a 7th championship if he can return for the divisional and grind through the playoffs.

Colts: This is my Super Bowl pick for this year so obviously I am very high on them. To begin Andrew Luck is absolutely phenomenal I do understand that he can be a on and off QB but when he is on I truly believe that no own in the League is better then him, And I truly believe this year the first of a few Super Bowls will be his. I am also impressed with a Colts defense that is improving under defensive guru Chuck Pagano. This is a good team and I am ready to see what they can do.

Bengals: The Bengals were my Super Bowl Pick last year and they failed me completely under an Andy Dalton who is 0-3 in the playoffs. They are playing my Super Bowl Picks the Colts in the Wild Card Round and are without their best player in A.J. Green. Sorry to the Bengal fans maybe next year.

Ravens; I honestly don't know what to do with the Ravens this year they are going to play their first playoffs without leader and future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis and Joe Flaco is more on and off then my TV. That being said I do think that they will beat the Steelers and who knows they could pull off another miraculous Super Bowl run.

Seahawks: The Defending Super Bowl Champions playing in the best home field in the NFL through out the playoffs almost all of me is screaming "repeat! repeat!" but something tells me no. I have a feeling that they will be upset in these playoffs because this, while a great team, is not the 2013 Seahawks and I think we will find that out soon.

Packers: This is a pretty good Packers team with all the usual suspects. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a Super Bowl but have a feeling that Aaron Rodger may not be at 100% even after his week off. Mainly for that reason and the fact that I really feel this team is very special I don't think this will be the year for the cheese heads.

Cowboys: I honestly apologize to the entire Cowboys organization for doubting the Cowboys as much as I have the last few years but I do believe this may be their year. This offense is absolutely insane with the best offensive line in the NFL that blocks for the best running back in the NFL in the beast known as DeMarco Murray. Tony Romo may be the best QB in the NFL and Dez Bryant may be the best wide out in the NFL. Don't forget an underrated wide out in Terrance Williams and the always reliable tight end  Jason Witten. I love this team and have hopped on the bandwagon. The only reason I don't have them wining it all is that I love the Colts a bit more which is no fault to them.

Panthers:To blatantly put it this is a team with many holes in it and while this under .500 club was gifted a home game and probable win against they limping Cardinals they are not a very good team. I don't really see this team making it too far and if they do it will be from some incredible defense and Cam Newton really stepping up.

Cardinals: I honestly feel awful for this team and I really believed that if Carson Palmer hadn't gotten hurt this team would have a had a legitimate shot at winning it all especially because the Super Bowl is in Arizona this year. But this team has Ryan Lindley and a host of other injured play makers and I am sorry to say that even if this team finds a way to beat the Panthers the Packers or Seahawks would crush them. I honestly hope they do win one soon they deserve it but it wont be this year,

Lions: I really like the Lions and I do believe that Bobby Lanes curse will be broken by Matthew Stafford someday but not today. I do like this team and I honestly believe that if they can find a way to beat Dallas this team could make a run. With wrecker defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh now playing because of an overturned suspension the Lions have a chance. This team is my very very dark horse team.
